I had the pleasure of meeting Sherry during her recent visit to the UK where she sang with the Baldy Holly Band to celebrate what would have been her Uncle Buddy’s 83rd Birthday and then recorded her new Album at Junkyard Dawg Studios.
Obviously, growing up in the shadow of her legendary Uncle Buddy Holly, Sherry was influenced by the early days of Rock n Roll.
Born and raised in Lubbock, Texas, Sherry is the daughter of Larry Holly, Buddy’s brother and was privy to family outings involving Buddy. She has many fond memories of Buddy and now continues the Holly legacy with her own music career. Her desire for singing and writing songs began at the age of thirteen. She has written country, gospel and blues songs and released a CD entitled, “Looking Through Buddy’s Eyes.” This release contains her original composition, “The Cost of Loving You”. She has performed on shows with Bo Diddley, Del Shannon, Carl Perkins, Bobby Vee, Don McLean, The Fireballs and others. Sherry toured with John Mueller, J.P. Richardson Jr., Ray Anthony, and Tommy Vee performing on the Winter Dance Party Tour of 2002. Sherry has also performed and recorded in Nashville, Tennessee. She also has released a new CD entitled “Santa Fe Lights” and a Gospel CD entitled “Don’t Be Left Behind.”
Sherry Holly is versatile in singing rock n’ roll, country, blues, and gospel songs. She even has the Holly trademark “hiccup” in her singing when appropriate. Sherry sings locally around the Texas area and has performed in many theaters across the United States. Many of the theaters are some of the same theaters where her uncle Buddy had also performed. One of the theaters she has performed at is the Rialto Theater in Brownfield, Texas.
Sherry is also an accomplished visual Artist. Raised around Buddy and her Dad, in the family Ceramic Tile business, Sherry developed great artistic skills – Pen and ink, watercolor art, pottery and especially mosaic tile art.
Looking forward to hearing her Album recorded right here in the UK.
